In Search of a Good Night’s Sleep – Mindfulness Makes a Difference!

Insomnia… can’t fall asleep… can’t stay asleep… can’t stop worrying about how this will affect you the following day!

According to a report from The National Sleep Foundation, more than two-thirds of American adults say they have trouble sleeping “a few nights a week or more.”

A recent study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that a six-week mindfulness meditation program was more effective in improving sleep quality for older adults (age 55+) than a six-week course in sleep hygiene education (e.g., regular bedtime, avoiding alcohol before bed).

Improving sleep by using meditation instead of medication – why not give it a try?!

Close to home, our Mindfulness in Minutes program here at Mohonk Mountain House begins with a session on using mindfulness to enhance sleep. When the hour-long session ends at 10 pm, participants have an immediate opportunity to try their newfound skills. We’re pleased to say that we’ve had positive anecdotes the next morning – and they are reported with pleasure!
